Drama can be a different and satisfying way to introduce Science and Technology curriculum in a fun and interactive way with years 7-11 students

Have your students ever operated on a torch, interviewed an astronaut or asked questions about supermarket technology? Now they can and learn at the same time. ActUpScienceModules help introduce Science and Technology curriculum topics in a practical, interactive and fun way in the classroom or elsewhere.  Playscripts contain a lesson plan, short play, and activities. Photocopy the playscript, give it to students and your class starts. No acting skills required!

Strand: Earth and Beyond
Science Unit 1: Interviewing An Astronaut
How does the Moon differ from Earth? The interview of Astronaut Alson answers some of the question and is a stimulating way for students to acquire some knowledge of outer space. It also leads to other activities requiring research to discover more facts and figures.

Science Unit 2: Planetary Party
It is important for students to learn about planets and the night sky. By acting out a planetary party students learn in a stimulating manner about Planet earth and beyond. Furthermore the Unit leads naturally on to activities and discussion of planetary features and phenomena.

Science Unit 3: Interviewing An Astronaut Who Has Just Returned From Visiting The Solar System
What's in our solar system? The interview of Astronaut Alson answers some of these questions and is a stimulating way for students to acquire some knowledge of the solar system. It also leads to other activities requiring research to discover more facts and figures.

Science Unit 4: Interview An Astronaut Who Has Just Returned From Space
What's it like to live and work in outer space? The interview of Astronaut Alson answers some of these questions and is a stimulating way for students to acquire some knowledge of living and working in outer space. It also leads to other activities requiring research to discover more facts and figures.

Science Unit 5: Interviewing An Astronaut Who Has Just Returned From Orbiting Planet Earth
What's it like looking at Planet Earth from space? The interview of Astronaut Alson answers some of these question and is a stimulating way for students to acquire some knowledge of our own planet Earth. It also leads to other activities requiring research to discover more facts and figures.

Science Unit 6: Interviewing An Astronaut Who Has Just Returned From Visiting The Sun
What's it like on the sun? The interview of Astronaut Alson answers some of these question and is a stimulating way for students to acquire some knowledge of our own sun. It also leads to other activities requiring research to discover more facts and figures.

Science Unit 7: Flood Alert
Students assume the roles of characters who hear a heavy rain warning that is predicted to lead to severe flooding in the area where they are staying. Students discuss strategies and the effects weather can have on human activity.

Science Unit 8: Operating On A Torch
The torch is a good example of a simple, yet effective scientific advance. In this Unit a torch is operated on in a hospital emergency department. The results reveal just how simple are the components of a torch.

Science Unit 9: Pulleys And Levers
Pulleys and levers have been around for a long time as two means of gaining force or momentum. In this Unit students use their initiative and the principles of leverage and pulleys to release a fellow classmate trapped under a stack of boxes. The students discover just how simple is the physics of levers and pulleys and how widespread their use is.

Science Unit 10: Recording Feeding Habits Of Familiar Animals
Why do we eat? Most of us never stop to think why or even how food arrives on our doorstep. In this Unit looks at the eating habits of two people, students will better understand the feeding habits of familiar animals.

Science Unit 11: Creating Pie Graphs of Eye Colours
Visible physical features can vary enormously within a species. Just how varied they can be is revealed in this Unit where the students scientifically record, by means of a pie graph, the variety of eye and hair colours in the class.

Science Unit 12: Learning To Recycle Paper
Have you ever wondered about how paper is made? Or thought about how straightforward it is to recycle unwanted items? This Unit briefly takes students through the paper making process and also touches on how easy it is to recycle previously unwanted items.
